ABOUT US

 

The Industrial Relations Society was formed in 1958 with the intention of organising, fostering discussion and promoting research and education within the area of Industrial Relations in NSW and Australia.

 

The Hunter Branch committee consists of one representative from each of the sectors below:

 

  • Unions

  • Government

  • Employers

  • The Law

  • Academics

 

The Society hosts various events throughout each calendar year, the major event being a conference that is held every October. In addition to this, membership of the Society also includes access to the journal (published 5 times a year) that covers a variety of articles and updated and relevant information in relation to many aspects of Industrial Relations both in the state and nationwide. The major events are as follows:

 

Finnegan Rudd Dinner – Usually held in July:

 

An opportunity to enjoy the company of colleagues and fellow professionals with an informative and enlightening guest speaker.

 

Annual Conference – Usually held in October:

 

An opportunity to engage and acquire information on the major issues, emerging trends and workshop practical solutions to many common business problems. Seminars are often held at either twilight or breakfast briefings on topical subjects. The annual conference is attended by a vast variety of professionals

 

Occasional workshops:

Often include areas of Unfair Dismissal, General Protections, Mental Health, Bullying and Intimidation and skills in Negotiation and Advocacy within The Commission.
